Un-wedding? Yes, please!

So this wedding blogging thing is off to a slow start.  I can’t tell you how unbelievably busy it’s been lately.   But I’m going to start updating on a pretty regular basis now.

Let’s back up and explain how this “un-wedding” is gonna work!

We got engaged on Christmas. Tres cute video floating on Facebook somewhere! We made a promise to each other that we wouldn’t talk about anything wedding related until after Jan. 1.  (I went underground and started looking up stuff like mad!)  I kept my end of the deal and just didn’t verbalize any of my findings! *wink wink*

But in all my searching on prices, planning, wedding lists and more, I just became over whelmed beyond belief. I would close all the sites I had open and just think, “Elopement, here we come!” Then I stumbled upon The (Un)Wedding: A 12-Step Plan.

This article gave me faith again! Sounds stupid, but I breathed a sigh of relief when I realized, there are no wedding police!  If we choose something different, no one can say a word because its our wedding!  I began to scheme together a few things, and had them all ready to present to Matt.  He liked them and here’s what we have come up with.

(Somewhat untraditional, but so very us!)

We decided to divide our wedding in half.  We are literally pressing pause and picking where we left off a few months later.  We are having a small private (family & wedding party only) ceremony in my parents backyard on April 17, 2010.  We will have a small “send-off” to greet our guests, then leave on our honeymoon! *hits PAUSE*  Then on July 3rd, we will have a dinner reception at the Cedars of Lebanon building in Tyler. *hits PLAY*  This will be everything  that normally happens at a reception, cake, toasts, dances, etc. Most of all it will be a big fun party where we can celebrate our marriage with you!  We chose this format because it works for us and family and school and dates and more.

The colors we decided on are shade of pink, celery green, white/ivory, and black.

Besides the “format” for the wedding, I’ve surprised myself and my mom with how “untraditional” I’ve wanted things, including my dress.  Its definitely not one of these wedding cake topper, “I look like a cupcake”, princess, snow-white gowns.  It’s got a vintage feel and made me cry when I put it on.(I’m a big baby!) I absolutely love it.  (P.S.—I found it at Weddings A to Z, they have a wonderful supportive staff!)

I have some amazing ideas for the ceremony (all of which Matt agrees to, it is not my day, it is OUR day) which I can’t decide if I wanna share or not.  I’m about 80/20 for sharing so I’ll elaborate later.

There is a little background to get you started, let me know what you think!

Progress is good, even a little at a time!

So  we didn’t start planning our wedding till last Friday.  Eh, I had ideas of course. But friday we set our budget and began the fun!

We’ve gotten quite a bit accomplished!

  • Started Tux Rental
  • Found/Bought the wedding dress (and wasn’t expecting too!)
  • Booked a date for engagement photos
  • Picked/Notified Bridesmaids
  • Chose our officiant (he accepted! yay!)
  • Finalized the ceremony site

Since last friday, I’ve learned that planning a wedding isn’t an easy thing especially in a short time!  Things, places, and people are booked up to a year in advance. yeesh!  But I think we’ve finally found the spot we are going to use for the reception, which also has a date! YAY! We are going to look at it tomorrow! *crosses finger*  Also, places are ridiculously expensive to rent. stupid.

Last night we spent the evening discussing venues, picking rental possiblities, watching Cake Boss (mafia style + cake baking= awesomeness), and mainly getting distracted by doodling.  This started  when I wrote my future name.  (weird!)

We live such an exciting life…not.  I promise it will get more interesting soon.
